Fire Danger Across the Central Rockies into the Plains; Late Season Heat Wave in the Southwest

A strong Pacific system is bringing strong winds and elevated to critical fire weather condition across portions of the Central Rockies into the Central and Northern Plains. Hazardous heat continues into the weekend. As places cool we have been dropping heat alerts AND as places heat up we have been issuing heat alerts. Pay attention to how these pulse over the next few days.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 9 AM Saturday for the Santa Cruz Mountains, Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County including Pinnacles National Park. Critically dry fuels, very low relative humidity, and breezy winds will lead to increased chances for fire starts and fire spread. Exercise all fire safety precautions, and have an emergency plan in case a fire starts near you.
